Doppelganger is a guidebook for our unsettling age, inviting all of us to view our reflections in the looking glass. Braiding together elements of tragicomic memoir, chilling political reportage, and cobweb-clearing cultural analysis, Naomi Klein dives deep into what she calls the Mirror World-our destabilized present rife with doubles and confusion, where far right movements playact solidarity with the working ...

What an absurd interpretation of why there was a disproportionate number of people of color with Covid. And I'm not going to do research to refute it. The fact is, or one fact is, Black People, because of one historical incident, the Tuskegee Airman incident, appalling and racist, refused many of them to get vaccinated, fearing a repeat of that incident long ago. Also, many people of color work jobs without health insurance, which would make them more susceptible to the illness, if it weren't for the fact that the Covid vaccines were distributed free by the government. It is likely that there are fewer health facilities in poorer neighborhoods, but the vaccines were available. The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program sent doses to 21 pharmacy partners with over 40,000 activated stores, 40% of which are located in high-risk zip codes. Keep your simplistic colonized/colonizer duality for those who benefit from believing this kind of ahistorical nonsense.

I ordered this book when it was first published. I have now read it three times. It is essential reading. It is very well written, well researched, and a poignant accounting of what happened to the Russian aristocracy who did not flee Russia after the so-called "October Revolution" and their trials and tribulations. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

I interviewed her by phone for my first ever article (in late 1999 I think) and she was as generous and kind with me as anyone could be. I’ve never forgotten that. The book was her brilliant first one, No Logo. She did an open meeting a few years ago with Barcelona’s then left mayoress and I couldn’t even get in. After enduring a lot of meaningless pontification and distracting graphics, the only thing I learned here is that Klein is a self-confessed stalker, and that she has gone so far as to write an entire book about a woman with whom she merely shares the same first name. I don't agree with some of Wolf's opinions, but she has vastly more honesty and integrity than Klein, who comes across as a manipulative grifter towards an increasingly cult-like liberal audience. Klein is shamelessly throwing another woman under the bus while also cashing in on that woman's hard-earned status as a writer and anti-establishment figure. Does Klein still claim to be a feminist? If so, how does she justify attacking another woman in such a blatant attempt at self-promotion? This kind of conduct is, frankly speaking, repulsive.

I just read the guardian article. The fact that Naomi Klein can't consider that the vast wealth of pharma industry has allowed them to cut corners and profiteer shows how blind she is. Sounds like the isolation of the past three years took a toll on her, and she admits that. Of anyone, Naomi Klein should know the pharma industry spreads its wealth so far and wide across our institutions, allowing the Pharma industry and Pharma products undue influence in our lives. In terms of money, Pharma doles out the most in lobbying our government Representatives, payments to corporate media through advertising, payments to universities through grants and research projects, payments to doctors in different forms to prescribe and speak out favorably for their products, funds to the NIH, funding scientific research studies that supports their pharmaceutical products, and rewarding doctors and scientists to put their name on studies published in scientific journals. Of course Pharma has been able to commit profiteering during this time, we just don't know how much. The fact that Naomi Klein can't consider this shows how one-sided she is. Maybe the fear-mongering of the past 3 years really got to her. It's also obvious that vaccine passports are a form of China's social credit score. You take a state-sponsored pharmaceutical product - you get privileges. Duh. But Naomi Klein doesn't like it framed this way. She seems to I think all actors in this covid era are angels, all acting in the public's interest and no one is out to advance their interests, advance their reach of power and make profits. It seems like Naomi Kline can't quite think straight. She disagrees with the corporate heavy-handed interference of kicking Naomi Wolf off Twitter, but when Naomi Wolf joined Trump's lawsuit to get her Twitter account back (while saying at the same time she thinks Trump is not a good person), Naomi Klein attributes this to "suddenly changing alliances". Naomi wolf wasn't aligning with trumps politics, she was a lining with a lawsuit against corporate overreach, something Naomi Klein knows about. Maybe watching too much fear mongering corporate media has broke Naomi Klein's brain a bit. She doesn't even recognize that this supposed pandemic had the death rate of a bad flu year the entire time, so all of these measures that she seems so enamored with, all these measures she needed to feel safe, weren't needed at all. That puts the government measures and corporate actions in a different light - not all tyranny, and also not all good intentioned actors - somewhere in between. Naomi Klein's a smart woman, but also an extremist in this guardian article.

Is this the death of the real as we know it? Wherein reality and the virtual begin morphing into each other, as Jean Baudrillard claimed they would. If so the prognosis is bleak, the only way out, as Baudrillard had it - some catastrophe and a return to year zero. But maybe that's the reason for all the denial over climate change, deep down we want to destroy the materialistic, artificial, mechanized order. We'd sooner destroy ourselves with global warming than face the hell of simulation - cloning, AI, robotics, the hollowness of politics, art, culture, religion in a exponentially expanding universe, wherein truth itself is seemingly mortal, or just becomes lost in a swirling vortex of information. The truth just being another version of events, just another interpretation among a myriad of interpretations, and often one of the less cogent interpretations. Even if the truth is proven beyond doubt, it still doesn't matter, it's just an opinion. Wherein it seems our only reason to exist is to confirm the doom laden predictions of science fiction. In fact it might be the only way we can face the future is via dystopia, or rather the resistance to dystopia as the only 'truth' we will have left. But that in of itself will only be a simulation of the truth, as secretly we will desire dystopia as an antidote to virtual Utopia. Utopia in a virtual, technocratic world could be far scarier. Utopia the ultimate void of banality and anodyne meaninglessness. As Tyler Durden put it in Fight Club, "I see a world where people stalk elk through the dark canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. They wear leather clothes that last a life time and climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap around Seers Tower. From there they can see tiny figures pounding corn and laying strips of venison on the empty carpool lane of some abandoned superhighway". Is this the world that billions of people are secretly longing for? Do we actually want the end of our virtual hollow civilization? Or maybe such apocalyptic fantasies are just another simulation. A reality principle provided by the simulacrum to create the illusion of its own mortality? The truth might be mortal, but the simulacrum will continue ad infinitum.

Naomi Klein's whole raison detre is to sniff-out the latest anti-antisemitism for the protection of her people. In this video, right away there are images from European middle-ages and she multiple times references the middle-ages. When Himmler had a knife custom made for him, he designed it on a middle-ages knife, and the Jews say that is evidence for civilization going backwards into the dark-ages The Jews are really fearful that a peaceful world can be suddenly shocked and turn to fascism. But the Jews are REALLY fearful, and they will do and say anything to keep their internationalist power. This is NOT paranoia or conspiracy-mindedness. Martin Serna
